Working together to empower young people to make smart decisions
Who We Are:
The Morgan County Partnership is a coalition of local individuals and organizations that are working together to provide our young people the support and skills they need to be safe, healthy and positive members of our community.
Our Mission:
The Morgan County Commission entrusted the Morgan County Partnership with two tasks:
1. Learn about how substance abuse is affecting young peoples’ lives and why this is happening; and
2.Empower individuals within the community to become engaged to do something about it.
A Few of Morgan County's Challenges
•Youth report seeing little or no harm in abusing substances. (WV Pride Survey)
•Youth illicit drug use is increasing in the county, even as it is decreasing across the state. (WV Pride Survey)
•Morgan County youth report the highest rates of having suicidal thoughts often or a lot in the state of West
Virginia. (WV Pride Survey)
•Morgan County’s youth report the lowest rates in the state of “my parents talk to me about drugs and
alcohol”. (WV Pride Survey)
•Morgan County’s alcohol buy rate by youth (80%) is 4 times greater than WV overall (19.3%). (WV ABCA
2009 report)
