All children and youth need to be surrounded with networks of individuals (parents, mentors, neighbors, etc.) and institutions (schools, churchs, etc.) that provide them with support, opportunities, boundaries, and structure, and that nurture in them the committments, values, competencies, and positive identity they need to grow up healthy and competent.

These are called Developmental Assets, which are 40 key building blocks that are critical for young people's successful growth and development. The best thing about building a child's assets is that they are EASY to do and EVERYONE can do it!

So take the pledge...

In my family, neighborhood, community, and world, I pledge to be an asset builder for children and youth by:

  Advocating

   Spending time

   Showing that I care

   Encouraging and valuing

   Teaching and modeling
